nitrogen blowdown systems?

Discussions about HPLC, CE, TLC, SFC, and other "liquid phase" separation techniques.

Hi, this is somewhat related to liquid chromatography, since I'm trying to choose a fraction collector and a nitrogen evaporative system at the same time. I need to choose the right collection format, vial or plate..

I turned a SPE manifold into a n2 system for scintillation vials, but this won't scale up to high throughput... has anyone seen a decent 96-well plate format n2 blow-down system?

As far as I know, N2 blow-down is used to reduce large fractions (>5mL, for example) to small ones, so it is usually done "off line".
I haven't looked at N2 blow down for about 15 years, but back then, Zymark had a very nice unit that could reduce up to 50mL samples down to nearly nothing in short order 10 or 12 at a time.

If your fractions are smaller, a SpeedVac may be the way to go (chilled centrifuge w/ vacuum applied).
Thanks,
DR

I found this one for 96 well plates

Thanks DR, JGK.

DR,
My earlier post wasn't very clear, I didn't intend to suggest that the fraction collector would give up plates to the nitrogen generator (although our tecan could probably do something that snazzy).

My speedvac doesn't have a rotor for plates, and I'm not sure that I would use the rotor if we had one... but I do intend to leverage the machine downstream, after I blow off organics (e.g. lyophilize the aqueous fraction). i.e. speedvacs make great boxes.

JGK,
that's a heck of a piece of equipment. Thanks for the find.

I found it but I can't vouch for its effectivness as I've not used one. The manifold I used was an Organomation one

It had 100 positions (10 x 10 grid), waterbath and could accomodate vials or tubes (depending on the rack used . I had no problems when using this model.

we got one from this company (not the 96plate version)

thanks guys. It seems there are a few n2 systems for well plates.

JGK, shat volume and dimension of vials/tubes do you use with that instrument?
