LOOKING FOR LCMS USER ADVICE

Hi,

We're currently looking for an entry level singlequad LCMS for basic open access sample id confirmation and assaying in a chemistry lab with no analyst suport. We've identified three systems that are compatible with our limited budget.

Shimadzu 2020Ev/2010HT lc
Thermo MSQ+/Surveyor lc
Agilent 6110/1200 lc

I'm looking for current users opinions on reliability, ease of use and (in the UK) what the customer service/engineeer callouts are like. Also the ease of use of the various software packages and their open access front ends. On a specification level, I notice that the Agilent operates the slowest scan rate of the three (2500 u/s). Is this a concern seeing as we're not interested in forensic levels of quantitation? Any comments much appreciated.

What about a LC-TOFMS?

e.g. the LECO Unique HT TOFMS should be in a similar price range.

Consider an Ion Trap system.

It can run like a single quad looking only for molecular ions at much faster scan rates 5,000 - 15,000 u/s and the mass range goes to 5,000 m/z to handle peptides/proteins/polymers if you like.

The extended fragmentation can give structure data beyond what a single or triple quad offers and pricing is not much more.

The current Varian 500 LC-Ion Trap is available in UK, US, and worldwide.
