This may have been discussed before but I'm a complete newbie to HPLC.

Do any of you know of any books you feel a complete newbie to an HPLC would find useful? I am definitely not a chemist.

Thanks,

Pat T.

I'd start with Snyder's Practical HPLC Method Development, 2nd Ed. It's quite readable and very thorough. I've used it to good effect for years.

Hang around here & ask questions. There are quite a number of smart people here (Uwe, Tom, Bryan, Bruce, Merlin, Danko, and others come to mind) who are willing to share.

Other sources of info: LC/GC magazine, column suppliers, and (maybe) the folks that made whatever instrument you're using.

I haven't read Snyder's book yet (just received it some weeks ago) but for a really newbie maybe the following are a bit easier, giving an general overview and basic knowledge. I have to say that I just know the german version of the books, but I think the english doesn't differ a lot.

General book:
Practical High-Performance Liquid Chromatography, 4th Edition
Veronika R. Meyer
ISBN: 978-0-470-09378-8

Troubleshooting:
Pitfalls and Errors of HPLC in Pictures, 2nd Edition
Veronika R. Meyer
ISBN: 978-3-527-31372-3

My recommendation for an easy-to-read-and-understand book is Michael Dong's Modern HPLC for the Practicing Scientist. Paperback, and many useful pictures...
My thanks to those of you who recommended some books for me to check out! It's good to have this forum. I'm glad I discovered you all!
