What is TAN?

Can anyone enlighten me as to what TAN is with regards to an HPLC Wt% assay? I'm assuming it is some kind of normalized A% for all peaks in the chromatogram?

Thanks

Total Area Normalization.
If you assume all the peaks have the same response factor, then if a given peak is 2% of the total area, then it is 2% (w/w) of the sample.

Noser222,
Thanks for your reply. That is pretty much what I thought but wanted to be sure.
Now, one more question. Does a TAN require a separate weight of the sample being run as a standard alongside the regular sample? Or does it require running the sample as a regular A% (no standard)?

Thanks
