Ion Chromatography-Adjustment of Flowrate through the column

Hi everybody,
is it generally considered a good practice to adjust the flowrate through a column (e.g.: the CS12 with DX500 that we use) from the working one of 1 ml/min down to e.g.: 0,25 mL/min and let it work overnight with eluent running, so as to have the insturment equilibrated faster in the morning?
Have there been any problems observed with a practice like that (e.g.: accumulation of eluent ions, due to the slow flowrate, over the exchange sites in the column that would cause problems as not all sites would perhaps be available any longer)?
And, if the answer to the previous question is yes, what would then be a method to recover the column performance? (if there's any kind of risk related to a practice like that, i'd like to know what would have to be done in order to overcome any possibly occuring problems before implementing it).
