Hi, is a UV detector more sensitive than a PDA detector?
Thanks Liv

Generally yes, but you have to specify which manufacturer and model.

In general, single wavelength and even variable wavelength detectors are more sensitive that diode array detectors, because of the differences in optics, light throughput, and the light detection electronics. This should be true for all manufacturers. In the early days of diode arrays, the differences were quite large - 2 - 5X. However, over the last 15 years the manufacturers have made great improvements in diode array design, so this difference is not very large.

Do you really need a different detector, or just better settings, or better chromatography, or ?

Hi, I was just curious since we have both types in the lab
Thanks
