Waters 2790 error state

I get "X axis Malfunction" shortly after sample drawn during an injection. :(

It was working this morning, but sometime over lunch it went wrong!

Manual - ever helpful - says "Check XYZ module connections" this I have done. Various cables appear to be plugged into sockets correctly. Specifically what shoudl I be looking for?

Any other things I should check before calling service? If I turn the 2790 off and back on again it homes itself without problem. The sample stage also aborts to home without problem, it's only during an injection that it is troublesome.

Many thanks for any advice !

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I very recently had a very similar issue with my 2690 and it required some adjustment of the carrousel position sensor(s), which took my service engineer about 30 min to accomplish. If the position sensors are similar or the same between the two machines, then you may have a similar issue. No new parts were required and the instrument seems to be operating perfectly since. I think I could have done the adjustment, were it explained to me, but my machine is on a service contract, so it was covered.

My advice: If all appears as it should be, call your engineer and explain the problem and see what he or she says. He or she might be able to walk you through tweaking your machine or be able to come out and fix it without undue pain.

Hope this helps!

Check any optical gates for dust-bunnies while you're in there. That's usually what fouls up our X-Y-Z samplers.
