Dear all,

I need a method that can detect chlriode in very low concentrations (ppb level) could anyone please help me?

Best regards
Anders
Hello;
What is the matrix that you wish to detect the chloride in? If the matrix is aqueous then IC would be your best bet. Using a concentrator column or a large loop injection will work. Dionex, Metrohm etc make different kinds of columns depending upon what else may be present. Hydroxide eluents are preferable since they give very low backgrounds. This allows for low detection limits.

If your matrix is organic then you may have to do some sort of matrix removal such as solid phase extraction or perhaps an aqueous extraction of some sort.

Matrix is definitely the primary issue in ppb level chloride determination.

If there is little matrix, direct injection might be easiest. Otherwise Inline Sample Preparation with preconcentration and matrix elimination might be the method of choice.

See Metrohm Inline Matrix Elimination.

Here is an application note from Dionex in which you will find chloride ion can be determined at sub-ppb level on the IonPac AS17 column with large volume injection using suppressed conductivity detection method:

Hope this will help.
