automatic diluters

Does anybody use automatic diluters. I am looking into a project to reduce sample prep time for our QC department. I have a few ideas such as using automatic diluters and pipettes. I looked at these a few years ago and found their performance ok if limited by the skill of the operator.

We have one of these: http://www.biotek.com/products/product_ ... &page=tech and are ordering another, so I guess it is working well...

I don't use it so I have no idea how well it works or how accurate it is.

My experience is that diluters are about as good as a skilled technician in terms of repeatability, but that they can work a lot faster.

We use automatic diluters for our linearity studies. Saves a lot of solvent and time, and just as accurate as manual pipetting and dilutions. The diluted standards are made up directly in autosampler vials. We evaluated the diluter for three different linearity studies, did exactly what manufacturer claimed. We use Hamilton. We also use a diluter in assays such as multiple samples for diluting 50 ul filtrate to 1000 ul in the autosampler vial.

Do you have any more info CPG? I am planning a project next year and I may even have some money to spend (shock!!!)

I've used the Hamilton Dilutor in the past.

they're OK if you do the same dilutions repetetively with the same diluent. But more of a hassle than a help if you have to keep changing out the diluent.

We use a Hamilton MicroLab 503A diluter, costs about $3.5K USD. A special syringe is used on the right-hand side. The left hand side can also be used as an accurate dispenser.

I have a 200 Series LC autosampler but never had the time (or correct tray) to use the dilution feature - I wonder how it would compare to an automatic diluter
