Hello,

Is it possible to detect PCl3 in GC with a NPD detector? I don't know if a NPD also needs a carbon it the analyte.

Thanks for Your information

Emsman,

Have not done it personally but you should be able to from what I understand about the detector. Phosporous is thought to rely on PO/PO2 formation which does not require hydrocarbon (Detectors for Capillary Chromatography, ed. H. Hill.) The down side, NPD's react very poorly to the presence of chlorinated solvents like DCM so this may work against you. If in doubt, ask the man who probably knows the most about NPD, Paul Patterson at detplp@aol.com.

Also should be do-able by PID or argon ionization detector. IP = 9.9 eV so should be able to do sub-ppm at a minimum although not as selectively.

Best regards.

I wonder if ECD would also work? I have never tried this, just a thought.
