We have used 9 petroleum ether: 1 acetone in the past and have gotten great results. However petroleum ether can no longer be used in our school because of safety factors. Is there another solvent which could be used to obtain good results for this lab to allow for calculation of Rf values.

Thanks in advance for your responses.
