HI everyone in GC
who of the users has experience with LowOx Column?
is it possible that i can separate and detect Alcohols ( C1-C3) and Aceton, and between i detect dimethyldisulfide & methylethyldisulfide, all in 1-20 ppm range, using FID , i approved this by using this column on MS.
but it is true?

Hello Arie2044,

the LOWOX was made for separation of Oxygenates in Hydrocarbons without separating the Hydrocarbons. Why not also Sulfur compounds? Pay attention on the standby temperature of 300°C otherwise retention times starts shifting extremly (by influence of H2O).
The column is fragile for mechanical vibrations and pressure drops. The stationary phase is inorganic , particels can enter to the MS, look by VARIAN for particel trap (see VA helpdesk).

Bernd

hi
thank for your response.
for MS we use post capillary column, according to advice we received from HP service works very good.
the problem with LowOx, we observed when we removed some of the oxygenated components from the process, but their peaks were on chromatogrms, then we used the MS, and found that we have Sulfur compounds exactly on the same time with Oxygenated.
