I am trying to figure out a good way to coordinate columns with the use log. Wev'e been labeling with tags on a string, but you can imagine what a mess that is. (We use book and page # as the designated #.)

any suggestions would certainly help our column drawer!

thanks
Wanda

I just did a Google search on "asset tags". There are lots of suppliers and the prices are reasonable (it looks like you could get a lifetime supply for less than the cost of a column!).

I've used Agilent's Column ID Modules, but of course they only work for Agilent instruments. The instrument automatically reads the tag in the column compartment and tracks the injections. They are a bit pricey at about $40 a tag but are also re-useable. It prints the column information automatically on your chromatograms, however it can become a 2 page chromatogram depending on the number of peaks in your analysis.
