Bad %RSD

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

I made a solution of 0.5mg/mL trimethylpropanediamine in 1 N NaOH and injected it directly to Agilent GC system. The %RSD area I got is 40%. The column is RTX 5 amine 30x0.53x1.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting. Thanks in advance

YM3142,
Your 1N NaOH is aqueous?

Yes. it is Aqueous 1N NaOH
Excel

Extract your aqueous solution into hexane or some other non-polar solvent and try it again.

Please don't shoot water and especially 1N NaOH on any GC column unless it is a Chromosorb 103 porous polymer or 10% Apiezon L with 1% KOH on Supelcoport in Glass.

best wishes,

Rod
