Dear Colleagues,

I would like to hear your recommendations and comments on a good (possibly simple) method to analyze 2-4D residues in citrus fruits. I have seen the EPA and PAM methods, both are of broad spectrum (developed for many pesticides and sample-types). Perhaps is because of this that they look rather complicated and require lots of special equipment and reagents (multiple extraccions, cleanups, and derivatizations).

Let me know if you are aware of a simpler, more specific GC or HPLC method (2-4D in citrus only). It does not have have to be a fully validated or official protocol.

Thanks

josebenjamin,

You might still want to do the hydrolysis and esterification to get down to the single form of 2,4-D and a form that will chromatograph well. That way you don't have to consider all the other esters. What you probably don't need, considering your sample, is all the clean up steps.

Best regards.
Dear Colleagues,

I think I found what I was looking for. The reference below describes a simpler method for 2-4D in oranges. You may want to check it.
