Dear Colleagues,

I would like to hear your recommendations and comments on a good (possibly simple) method to analyze 2-4D residues in citrus fruits. I have seen the EPA and PAM methods, both are of broad spectrum (developed for many pesticides and sample-types). Perhaps is because of this that they look rather complicated and require lots of special equipment and reagents (multiple extraccions, cleanups, and derivatizations).

Let me know if you are aware of a simpler, more specific GC or HPLC method (2-4D in citrus only). It does not have have to be a fully validated or official protocol.

One problem with 2-4D is that it is commonly supplied as an ester as well as the free acid. Depending on what you want, you may still need the hydrolysis and/or esterification. Citrus is a tricky matrix (especially grapefruit!).
