Has anyone tried GC on MSA? It seems only GC and IC method are doable. The MSA has a MP of 19 C, BP of 167 C. However, it decomposes from 200 C.

In a previous position I'm sure I monitored MSA in a reaction mixture by GC. Unfortunately I dont remember all of the details but it wasnt anything too strange. Just a normal gradient on either a DB-624 or DB-5 column. Sorry cant remember which. The method was actually developed for the other materials present and the MSA was just a bonus. The one point I do remember was that the assay was very sensitive to the cleanliness of the injection port liner (split) particularly the wool plug. A dirty liner would give a lot of reaction products with the MSA. Of course that could just have been due to the other assays we were running at the time but it is worth bearing in mind. Make sure you usea new clean liner when you start the method development for this.

thanks for the clue. It has been decided to use IC.
