news HPLC ?

HI,
I will buy a new HPLC with a UV-Visible detector. We have the choice between JASCO, AGILENT, HITACHI, VARIAN, WATERS, DIONEX.
Do you have any recommandations?

So.. What do you what to analyse?? And have you given any thought to Thermo's system?

And I think there are a couple of posts on this subjecy already.. try to search the forum.

Intrument company people *hate* me for saying this, but:

1. What manufacturers' instruments are you and your colleagues using now?
2. Have they had good results and (more important) good service?

If the answer to question 2 is "oui", then get your new system from the same vendor.

If the answer to question 2 is "non", then inquire with colleagues locally as to which vendor provides the good service and support. That is often more dependent on the quality of the local personnel than it is on the design of the hardware.

When we acquire a new HPLC system 2 years ago,we greatly consider the level of local technical support of the HPLC vendor after sale.Also we prefer that the staff who will handle the system got a hands-on experience already on that HPLC brand because different brand has it's own operating system.

I will very much agree with Tom an AM.
Also, make sure the software you’re using currently is compatible with the instruments you’re looking at.
Especially if your company has implemented a central CDS installation (e.g. CITRIX)
Waters and Agilent have signed an agreement to control each others instruments, but new instrument models are always set in a queue and have to wait for implementation.
Dionex code their own drivers for Chromelion and typically support both Waters and Agilent in addition to their own instruments naturally.
So maybe your current CDS should also be taken into account when choosing your new system.

I don't know what your function is in your company, so bear with me. I'm in R&D and we very often have to investigate problems that our quality group have. We need to have at least one instrument with the same type of pump (binary vs quaternary) and detector (UV or PDA) as the Quality group. this is so we can compare apples to apples rather than a quaternary and PDA system to a binary and UV system.

If you're in a pharmaceutical environment and you buy a stand alone data system, see how your IT department will securely store your anayses.

If you're in St. Louis, there are 2 systems I would recommend based solely on service. The other system, well, their service guy annoys the living bejeezus out of me everytime their foot gets in the door. I'd never buy a system from that company.
