Dirty Headspace syringe

Hi All,

I have a dirty headspace syringe - the only way I can describe it is there is some brownish gunk on the syringe.

I am using a HTA 200 autosampler which does direct headspace injections and there is a helium flush.

In the headspace vials I have water, a complex of a flavour such as Diacetyl and cyclodextrin.

The syringe ranges for the different complexes but it has been operating at 100˚C which is higher than the incubation temperature.

The brown gunk seems to be concentrated at the bottom of the syringe and at the top near the hole for the helium flush.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

Thanks for any help.

If you have ran a dirty sample, you need to wash syringe by using some solvents. You can dismount the syringe and washing it by drawing solvent.

If you don’t want to dismount the syringe, you can draw and waste solvent by using manual driver control. Go to the setup screenshot > manual operation:
1) move the turret in a position where you can put below the turret a vial with some solvent
2) move the needle driver up to meeting vial with solvent
3) use the plunger driver to draw and waste solvent up to you have cleaned the syringe

Then remember to dry the syringe by flushing gas!
