Hi!
I'm working in the analytical department of a thermoplastics manufacturer. Our newest equipment is a Perkin-Elmer ATD (Automated Thermo Desorber), which is coupled to a Agilent GC-MS. As this technique is quite new for me, I'm looking for someone who is experienced in thermodesorbtion and can give tips and answers to technical questions.

I now assume that you are dealing with thermodesorption. Of course there are some questions.

- have you experience in detecting with FID and MS similarily? i take a splitter at the end of the capillary from the ATD and then go through two columns to FID and MS, resp.
- the first results have been a bit chaotic and badly reproducable. How can i check if there aren't any contaminations from the system?
- as the helium flow is not regulated by EPC like in a normal GC it changes during the temperature programm. How can I optimize the flow and for which temperature during the oven programm?
