Suggestions for normal phase column

Hi there,

Our current lab has a wide variety of users, doing a wide variety of chemistry. Currently, for our HPLC we have a Zorbax C8 and a Zorbax C18 column, both reverse phase. We would be interested into getting one or two normal phase columns...

Any general NP column to suggest...? Really just looking for something quite standard, that can handle various types of compounds one would be likely to separate on a NP column.

Thanks!

Roxanne.

I'd say a silica or polymer based amino column. They're good for sugars and all sorts of other good stuff. I've used ours for sugars, glycerine, and niacinamide among other things.

After that, maybe a bare silica column though they're a whole different kettle of fish. You can do great things with them but some reading would be in order before getting serious with one.

Any actual one to recommend? i.e.; Agilent, Regis...?

Thanks!

Since you asked... Acclaim Mixed-Mode WAX-1 is a silica-based 3° amine column http://www1.dionex.com/en-us/columns_ac ... 48519.html
I have been trying it out on a variety of things including melamine/cyanuric acid, drugs, organic acids and it works quite well, even on molecules that you would not expect to work.

Here are some examples comparing elution order of steroids on Unison UK-Amino and Unison UK-Silica to ODS phases. The elution order is usually reverse:
