Dear All,
I have to perform quantitative analysis of Caffeine and Ibuprofen in pure solvents such as DMF, Ethanol, THF etc. Can GC with TCD detector be used for this analysis? If yes, what experimental conditions would be ideal? Any advice / comments in this matter from forum members is appreciated.

Thanks,
Srisurya

GC is not the best way to analyze these compounds. In addition to that, TCD would not the the best detector even if you could make GC work. Why don't you try HPLC. Even with just a UV detector, you would probably get a better result than with GC/TCD. LC/MS would be best. Mobile phase pH will have to be controlled. There are tons of LC methods for both of these compounds in the literature.

Two analytes, one highly acidic and the other highly basic.

Is your professor trying to teach you a lesson about frustration in chromatography?

Or is this a homework question?

just curious,
