7683B Injector - Will not Withdraw

Ok, so I removed the turret and went through the alignment procedure/mode... Everything looks good with the syringe. Injection takes place, however the minute the needle injects, it does not get pulled out. I get an immediate error in chemstation.

What are the most common problems when the injector can't pull out?

Thanks,
Aaron

Aaron,

I have this error occasionally and its usually a dirty syringe. Remove the syringe and try an injection cycle with no syringe in place. If it works now, clean your syringe or replace it with a new one.

There is an outside chance that the needle is stuck in the glass insert if you have a constriction at the top (double gooseneck or a single gooseneck in upside down). I have seen this happen when a Varian liner was used my mistake in an HP inlet.

i agree with skunked_once. we have the same the problem frequently with our syringes if they havent had a proper wash cycle. give it a clean in solvent or try a new syringe.

Clean the autosampler guide rods (do not lubricate). To me it sounded like the syringe body doesn't pull up, not that the plunger won't pull up.

If using a new syringe does not work....At the top of the tower, the motor which move the syringe carrier there is a small wedge under the motor itself. This is used to adjust the tension on the belt, sometimes the belt can become loose and this causes the slider to be pulled out of line so it sticks. To adjust it simply push the wedge further in until it clicks.

As it turns out, the wrong injector nut was simply being used. When I tried doing a manual injection, the needle wouldn't fit through the opening. Someone changed it without me being aware...

Thanks for all the feedback, people. I appreciate it. :0)
