So what qre the benefits of individual weighings for linearity versus a stock solution and serial dilutions?

In a serial dilution, the errors accumulate. You need to take extra care with each pipette measurement. If you are using an adjustable pipette, don't change the setting during the serial dilution.

There is a hybrid approach I sometimes use: serial dilutions by weight. This is handy when you only have a small quantity of reference material, and traditional volumetric glassware is just too large.
