:?: Is it possible to confuse Folic Acid from a vitamin pre-mix with Acetaminophen (GC-MS)?

Do you know where I can get the graph for each of them?

Thanks.

Anything is possible, but it would be very unlikely.

There is no such thing as "the graph" for a compound. The way GC/MS works is that you run known standards of each compound, then run your mixture and compare the results. To be valid, the comparison must be run on the same instrument.

Offy,

As Tom noted, by GC/MS getting the two confused would be almost impossible. Take a look at the two structures (NIST Webbook) and the retention times should be way, way different.

Regarding a graph, do you mean a chromatogram or do you mean a spectrum. The first is retention time versus signal from your GC and the second is the fragmentation pattern from your MS. No spectra available from NIST web page for folic acid, did not check for acetaminophen. May be in the Wiley library if you have it installed on your MS data system. Should be able to search by the CAS number if you do.

Best regards.
