As part of a validation we need to screen butanol for amines.

https://www.varianinc.com/media/sci/tec ... A01564.pdf descriebes a possible way to do it, but we lack the equipment. Can anybody reccomend a lab (Scandinavian or European) that can perform the analysis? Any alternative method?

Wet chemistry methods for amines are a possibility. Qualitative testing by electrochemistry should be investigated.

Almost any Carbowax Capillary deactivated for amines should work well to do a GC analysis. Almost any thick film 5% phenyl phase column should also work well. Also a 10% Apielzon with 2% KOH on Supelcoport packed column could give you rather low levels of detection.

Difficult to answer your question due to the lack of information about the desired limits of measurement. I know that methanol can have a few ppm of amines present in many commercial samples.

I wish you success.
