I have received a method of analysis which states the column to be used, or more likely the column the method was developed on, is
Spherix 5 Sil 30cm x 4.6mm
Has anyone heard of this column and give me some more details such as alternatives

Hi Savoia,

I did a quick Google search for Spherix columns, and came up with one or two papers that mentions this particular brand of column, however could not find any details about the specification of the phase.

Therefore, you will probably need to replace it with an alternative brand of SIL column. I would guess that most other SIL columns would do the same job, although the name "Spherix" suggests that it is based on spherical silica particles. Therefore, columns such as the Spherisorb 5 SIL, Kromasil 5 SIL, or Intersil would probably be better (provided you can get one that is 30cm long - you may need to check this with your supplier).

Hope this helps,

Steve

Just in case there was a typo, Spherex (with an e instead of an i) was available from Phenomenex.

I have a listing in an old catalog but did not see it on their web site, though I did not look too long. If this is the correct phase, they might be able to suggest an alternative.

Thanks for the typo theory. I'll give the local office a call
