Hi, when i read some literatures, they use the AOCS method/BF3-METHANOL, they declare that the method is not suitable for COD liver oil, why, could anyone can explaine this? thanks!

Polyunsaturated FAs will react with dissolved or otherwise present oxygen when mixed and heated with the BF3 solution and decompose the FAs.

best wishes,

Rod
whether do you mean that the major composite of cod liver oil is the free fatty acid?

I assumed you were testing Cod Liver Oil for its Fatty Acid content.

Thanks for your reply!
i am developing the method for vegetable oil, like flaxseed oil, borage oil, etc, and the fish oil, as well as for the cod liver oil, so i dont understand why the literature said their methods are not suitable for cod liver oil? what is the difference?
thanks!
