help! how to calibrate the GC6890/FID?

hi, i am new to GC.
we need follow the GMP and GLP in my lab, I am wondering how to calibrate my GC in-house, i need write the SOP.
your support is highly appreciated!

Hi Elaine
As a sweeping generalization I would say that you do not need to calibrate the instrument - you calibrate your methods.
In (over) simplified terms: run a series of standards of your analytes with known concentration, plot peak area vs concentration, fit the best straight line to get the calibration equation and use that to calculate from the sample peak areas to sample concentration.
Of couse, real life is not so simple; the details will be specific to each analysis.

Elaine,
It is possible to get a book from Agilent which has check out procedures for all of the common Agilent detectors and inlets. It basically gives the conditions for the detector and inlets and specifies the column and check-out sample. It then gives you the area counts that you should get when you run the GC under the given conditions. You will then know that your detector and inlet are working OK.
Then you should go ahead and calibrate your method as Peter mentioned.
