Sugars detection

I would like to analyse beer sugars (fructose, glucose, sacarose, maltose and maltotriose) by HPLC with DAD or RID detector. The concnetrations are very small then we need to enhance the sensibility by concnetrating the sample withj SPE ( RID) or derivatizing the sugars (UV-Vis). Could you help me with some ideas??

why not take the simple approach and concentrate your samples by freeze drying?? Very little labour required, also very little cost required for the concentration step as oppsed to SPE.

I don't think you will manage to do any preconcentration by SPE. You can probably do low ppm by ion exclusion hplc with water mobile phase. If you need better then derivatization is probably your best bet. I don't know your sugars but if they all contain aldehyde then a hydrazine to hydrazone derivatization ought to do the trick. Search the literature or get a little intro at Molecular Probes website.
