Methyl iodide by liquid extraction in pentane

Dear all


I wanted to know is it possible to mesure methyl iodide by liquid ectraction in pentane?

I am guessing you will use GC. Negative chemical ionization mass spec should work nicely for detection. Other options would be electron impact, positive chemical ionization, or maybe ECD. FID would also work if you don't need sensitivity, but the problem will be your solvent peak will co-elute with the idomethane. You could try a solvent with lower volatility so that the solvent comes out after the idomethane. What matrix are you extracting from?

I am extracting sea water samples directly in the collection vials (100 ml volumetric flask ) chilled at 4 degree.
