Dear All,
We are having difficulties finding a method for the detection of DMSO.
We have tried headspace and also liquid injections.
Can any one provide us with a method that can quantitate 80 ppm?
thank

DMSO is a sticky problem.
The matrix can make the low detection levels for DMSO difficult if not impossible. This affects the choice of solvent and the side reactions which can take place. Also the solvent affects how well you can refocus the DMSO during injection.
LC may be a better solution for you.
SPME is another option to try.
Suggestions for GC analysis are:
injector temperature high enough to volatize the DMSO well
proper choice of column which will not react with the DMSO and refocus effectively in the matrix involved
Wash solvent plug behind the sample plug in the injection syringe
Clean injection liner is a likely requirement (replacement may be needed after each sample injection)
good luck and best wishes,
Rod
