Anyone know of an IC method using a Dionex IC 3000 for the determination of sodium metabisulfite?
I just got handed this project after another change of mangers, any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

At high pH, metabisulfite is converted to sulfite. You can determine sulfite by pulsed amperometric detection on your ICS 3000. Take a look at Dionex App Note 54:

The sod.metabisulfite converts into sulphite and finally in to sulphate and in aquous solutions it convers to sulphate very fast. both sulphate and sulphite ions can be measured by Ion Chromatography (IC) using Suppressed Conductivity Detection.
Interestingly the conversion of sulphite to sulphate can be arrested by adding formaldehyde. To convert sulphite to sulphate immediatly add peroxide.
some of these application notes are available from IC vendor.
Hope this will help.
