Why are you asking? Was there something interesting in the last Key Reporter?

I was invited to join, back in the dark ages, but was too cheap to pay the initiation fee. My husband coughed up the fee, though, and is member. I can't say that I've noticed a whole lot of benefits from membership.

I get a window sticker - which my wife says that if I put this on my '88 truck, would deter any future students from trying to meet the PBK criteria. For me, I paid $25 about 30 years ago to join, got a dinner.

I'm not a member, but from what I understand, you have to be invited and invitations are based on the merits of your scholastic record.

I almost forgot I was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, I have not heard from them since I left school. the following are from wikipedia.com.

The Phi Beta Kappa Society is an academic honor society with the mission of "fostering and recognizing excellence" in the undergraduate liberal arts and sciences. even the most generous chapter will typically elect fewer than 5% among the candidates for degrees at that College of Arts and Sciences.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is the oldest, largest and most selective all-discipline honor society in the United States. Membership is by invitation only and is reserved for the top 7.5 percent of university juniors and top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students. Faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction also qualify. Good moral character is an essential supporting attribute of membership in Phi Kappa Phi.
