hello HPLC experts,

I am new to HPLC world. What is ODS reversed-phase column. The column i am trying to use is only reversed-phase column C18 5u (4.6mmx25cm).
Can i adapt the method from ODS reversed-phase column to the column i have.

Thanks

What is ODS reversed-phase column. The column i am trying to use is only reversed-phase column C18
ODS = "OctaDecylSilyl" = C18

However, there are over 500 different C18 columns on the market and they vary tremendously in their chemical characteristics.
Can i adapt the method from ODS reversed-phase column to the column i have.
Most separations can be done on most C18 columns, so the answer is "probably yes", but the key word in your question is "adapt". You will probably have to adjust some of the other parameters (organic solvent, organic:water ratio, pH, temperature, buffer concentration, etc.)

One of the first things you will need to look at is the particle size. There's a substantial difference between 3µ, 5µ and 10µ particles in otherwise identical columns.

ODS column is C18 column.But there are many columns in the market depending upon their acidity and shape selectivity. So, you can use your column but certain parameters you may have to adjust.

Thanks for information about ODS column

Tom Jupille, Dr and Pankajcops,

Thanks for the information. Presently i am working on collagen cross link analysis using C-18 column and trying to analyze 3 cross link-HP,LP and pentosidine in one experiment.

l will come back with more questions about HPLC.

Thanks again
