In this year we will replace our old CDS (Agillent software) with new Empower II system. We want to buy also new headspace module in this year. We think between Agilent G1888 and combi-PAL Injection system. Do you know if I can control injection parameters (combi-PAL or G1888) directly through Empower system or I have to use additional application? Could you advice me which headspace autosampler is better (HP 7890, G1888 or combi-PAL Injection system)?

Thank you for your response.

We have just purchased a new Agilent 6890N GC and G1888 Headspace sampler. We are currently running Empower I CDS. The 6890N is controlled through Empower. We are told by Waters that at some stage later this year we will be able to control the G1888 through Empower software but it is not possible at this stage. Until we gain control through Empower we will program the G1888 through the instrument control panel and acquire data through Empower. I would check with Waters in regard to control of the other systems.

Hi,

Addressing the last part of your query, I can't comment on the HP7890 (not familiar with it). As for the other two, the G1888 is a dynamic sampler and the Combipal (CTC) is a static sampler in it's main configuration. It depends on your requirements.

The G1888 can be moved around to different instruments.
We had problems with the previous model of it which may have been overcome with this version.

The Combipal type is, I think, an excellent autosampler and can be changed rapidly (1 minute) between liquid injection, gas syringe injection or SPME sampling. I've got 3 of them and I want another! There is a dynamic headspace adapter option but I think that this would leave your instrument as a dedicated one. You can check on that.

Have you thought about any other headspace samplers?

Regards,

Ralph
