Does anyone know how to connect a Perkin Elmer 785A UV/Vis HPLC detector to a standard analog paper chart recorder? My chart recorder has input wires (one black (grnd), one red (positive)) for connection to detectors with analog output.

The back of the PE detector has various wire connector outputs marked CO C1 NC; CO C2 NC, etc. as well as 30 mVDC and COM outputs. In addition, there is another output marked REC OUT 10 mV, but it is a headphone-style port.

If anyone can offer any advice on how to connect the two, I'd be greatly appreciative.

The "REC OUT 10mV" should be the one you want. A quick trip to Radio Schlock for an appropriate "mono" plug, some shielded wire a couple of banana plugs, and some heat-shrink tubing (also a soldering iron and some solder if you don't have one handy) and you should be good to go.

The wire shielding gets soldered to the ground (barrel) connector of your plug. The center conductor gets soldered to the tip connector. At the other end, solder on banana plugs (or spade connectors if you have those) to plug into the recorder.

Make sure the recorder is set to the appropriate range (10 mV).
