Is it possible to tag or put some sort of tickler on someone else's post so you get email alerts when there are responses to it?

Just post a (short) reply in it, and tick the "Always notify me of replies:
Sends an e-mail when someone replies to a topic you have posted in. This can be changed whenever you post." option in your profile?
But if you don't want to post in the thread...I dunno?

I was hoping to just sort of lurk quietly in the background....
Good question for us lurkers to have an answer.

no need to reply to be in it i think. Bottom left of the message thread is the link "Watch this topic for replies" click on this and when the next person makes a contribution to the message thread, regardless of who they are, you will be sent an email informing you more threads have been posted.
I think that's right, Tom "the Oracle" Jupille may be able to confirm this.

Nope, it's been there all along. The Forum is pretty much "stock" phpBB software. I'm not a programmer, so I've kept the modifications to a minimum (unlike my approach to chromatography, which tends to be "if it ain't broke, fix it until it is").
