transfer line GCHS

Hi all. I have two questions.
1. I developed a gc-hs method in thermo finigan GC-HS that does not have transfer line. when transfered to a Perkin elmer GC-HS the peaks do not resolve, What needs to be done when you transfer such methods.
2. Is transfer line GC-HS a must to follow USP <467>.
Thanks

The Perkin Elmer 'transfer line' can have the column inserted all the way to the needle if I remember correctly. My HS-40 certainly could, although I used a fused silica deactivated piece of SS tubing and a butt connector in the GC oven to connect the two.

Is this similar to your Thermo HS analyzer hardware? Or does it use a syringe?

Otherwise, there must be a transfer line of some sort. How do you connect your sample vial to pass your gas sample to your column?

best wishes,

Rod

Hi Raju

Is the loss of resolution becuase the peaks are broader, or because their retention times have changed ?

Peter

u can try this

Hi
Raju

This is dhruvil. Oftern this problem is observed when u transfer a method which is developed on Shimadzu or some other make GC onto Perkin Transfer line GC.

U can adjust this parameters or just check what values u have adjusted on yr GC (perkin)

Yr syringe temp, conditioning temp. and the conditioning time u can keep the same as yr original method. But u cannt put 01 ml sample injection volume with Perkin transfer line GC. That u keep 0.2 minute, Pressurization time as 0.3 min.

i.e yr injection time will be 0.2 min
Pressurization time will be 0.3 min.
Yr keep yr signal attanuation -2 or -4. (optimise it for yr method.)

U try yr method with these settings. i think u should get perfect resolution and peak shapes and everything.
This problem is faced with Perkin because it has got very high sensitivity compared to other GCs. ok

ok then try this and let me know.
all the best :D

Dhruvil
