The Pyrolizer

Is the pyrolizer still a voodoo technology? I know there are instances where I have *something* that will neither GC nor LC well or with much sensitivity. Is the answer to burn it up and look for products?
I currently have 2 pyrolizers in my lab, but neither has been touched since before I started (7-8 years ago). Most talk about the pyrolizers comes down to them being inconsistent and breaking a lot.
Any new insight/hopeful products?
