G1888 Transfer Line

Could Agilent have designed the transfer line to be much shorter before connected to inlet side.

Would a shorter line increase efficiency of separation.

Or it would not make any difference.

just a thought, maybe a silly one.
The transfer line could be shorter - all the headspacers seem to use about the same length, and have been using it for at least three decades - it is probably one of those things that is based on what was lying around in a parts store when the first headpacers were designed and (like a lot of features of headspacers) nobody has bothered to change it. Unless the gas flows are seriously below optimum the length of the line will not make a difference to the chromatogram.
