In our Knauer HPLC pumps,
the moment I open the purge valves, the solvents start flowing out, without me even hitting the purge button .. is this normal ..?

with best wishes
It is normal , if the solvent bottle is over the pump , solvent goes out by gravity.
Yes (depending on the construction). That does not mean the solvent is going through the pump only the lines are clear of bubbles. Thus, you are not likely to suck more bubbles into the pump.
yes, this is normal and once I forgot to close the purge valve and the next morning there was not solvent in the bottle.
