HP 5890 Series II communication problem

What are the implications of a "failed loop back test". What are the possible solutions to this?
Check the connection of black HPIL cable under the top-right cover.
Regardless have you any peripheral on HPIL bus or not - the loop has to be closed. At least with single patch connecting input and output.
