How do you check if GC is correctly configured?

I'll assume that this is a new-to-you system, or somehow all got erased/changed.
Go to Configuration Editor icon, make sure that the 5890 and its autosampler codes are correct. The 5890 default address is 15, and I believe the 7673 autosampler is 8.

The 5890 series II we are having does not have an autosampler component. Either than that the settings as you suggested has been configured rightly but we are still not getting any communication between the GC and the PC. The GPIB bus is working fine as well.

Have you tried to reseat the hpib cables and reboot the entire system from scratch? Obvious question but i had to ask. It gets overlooked often in these situations.

Install this
http://www.unichrom.com/dle.php
according to this
http://www.unichrom.com/hpx890/hp5890%2 ... %20eng.pdf
demo mode allows 3 min of acquisition time and problems are logged into UniChrom/log directory. So we can resolve problems together
UniChrom requires HPIB host adapter SICL name (not VISA) to be gpXXX or hpXXXX.
Agilent requires host adapter SICL name hp82341 regardless you actually have 82350 or 82357 controller.
UniChrom can work via RS-232, Chemstation also can but unofficially and with dirty hacking.

We have UniChrom installed now but there is a holdup of "cannot open instrument HP5890" (although I can work within the UniChrom environment, holdup only shows when you click the "run" icon). Possible reasons (from software):
1. Instrument is not ON (checked to make sure it was).
2. Program cannot gain access to the instrument (don't know what that means aside comms).
3.Wrong instrument configuration (same as what we had with using Chemstation).
4. Temporary problems with instrument. Please try again.
Any further ideas or suggestions?

By default when no comm port name specified at the "Port" page driver looks up all the serial ports of the PC. If you have HPIB connection - set the comm port name to SICL name of your host adapter separated by comma with GPIB id of your instrument e.g.: hp82341,15
Also please send the UniChrom/log directory zipped to unichrom at unichrom dot com

Hi Antonk
After setting the comm port to hp82341,15, we have the PC talking to the GC. Thanks for that! I was wondering how to generate the instrument/log directory file. Can you help?

I meant - if you have problems in connection - send the c:\UniChrom\log directory zipped. In modern WIndows, i think, you need the right click of appropriate folder and select - Compress it....

Hi Antonk
Do you have an email address or any other means of contact? I requested for an information from Unichrom on how to obtain the full license for the software but no response as yet.
