Fat soluble Vitamins Analyses

Dear friends,

I would like to request your help finding the latest in sample preparation techniques and analytical methods for fat-soluble vitamins (A,E,D,K). The samples are food and food-ingredients in general. I am interested in methods that can be done in hours or minutes, and that have a high degree of especificity. Non chromatographic techniques are also of interest.

Please let me know about any specific references you know about or good general information sources.

I have found a couple of references about Fat Soluble Vitamin extraction with supercritical CO2/methanol. If anyone of you has experience with this technique I would like to hear some opinions. I am particularly interested on the instrumentation and the quality of results.

I would contact ESA, Inc. (www.esainc.com). They have extensively developed methods for analyzing fat-soluble vitamins.

I have tried to get some technical info from ESA, however their answers have been short of what I need to make decisions or recommendations. My expectations were to get some "real life" opinions from VITASCAN users, or from people with extensive experience in the field.

Why not ask the manufacturer to provide you with contact details of some users?. They will have to ask the users first, and they will screen them so only positive responses appear, but it's always nice to know that any new toy works well for somebody.

Most users will point out practical limitations and comment on their experiences. If a manuafcturer can't provide at least a few positive responses, you should be thinking very hard about why that is.

There is an excellent book called " Modern Chromatographic Analysis of Vitamins " by Andre de Leenheer and friends. It provides good general coverable of most vitamins.
