CTR-III packed column

Dear people,

I am using a GC-TCD with a CTR-III packed column to analyze Ar, N2, O2 in air.
We used to obtain the O2 content substracting the Ar peak area to the Ar+O2 peak area. Recently I realized that the results of the CTR-III column were not allowing me to quantify the O2 because the Ar+O2 peak was being smaller than the Ar only peak area.

I thought the problem could be solved conditioning the CTR-III column. The tech papers I found say that conditioning must be made increasing the carrier flowrate to 40mL/min and heating the column to 140C for one hour. Then increasing the temperature at a rate of 5C/min to 250C and holding it there for 12hours.
The problem comes from the label that the CTR-III column has, where it is said that the MAOT is 200C when every data sheet says the max temp is 275C.

Please, could anybody explain me which one is the correct max temperature for the CTR-III packed column??

Thanks a lot,
Zango:)

Hi Zango,

The literature does indeed suggest 275°C as the MAOT. I would contact Alltech and and ask them.

Sorry for the commercial but in case anyone else is interested in separating these three gases at room temperature here is a sample chromatogram using a packed column at 28°C.

Sorry, I will try this again

This link is to the chromatogram of air. The previous one is Neon, Argon, Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Krypton.

The column is a 9m 1/8" packed column with special packing on a custom basis using a µTCD 6890 GC.
