Standard operating procedure for Agilent's GC/MS

Hi everyone,

We recently bought an Agilent's GC/MS (7820 - 5977B), and we are in the process of developing a standard operating procedure. We wonder if anyone here has an SoP that you use in your lab, and if so whether you would be willing to share it with us.

Thanks!

We don't normally make an SOP for the instrument itself, but for the analysis that is being done on the instrument.

What will the instrument be used to analyze?

We analyze for environmental contaminants in water. At the moment our focus is phenols. Thanks.

Hi

Just to throw in my observations on this

I have been searching through my old SOPs - I can send some if required

After many heated discussions with the Quality Assurance Unit :-( it was agreed that to meet UK requirements

For a Standard operating procedure of an instrument it was pointless re-writing the whole of the manufacturer's comprehensive manual as some had done and that all that is really required for an instrument is

A number for the SOP and where the SOP would be located

The SOP would contain

The instrument name and description

The serial number and local asset number

The location of the instrument

The person responsible for the instrument

The manufacturer's reference number of the instrument manual(s) and its location

A reference to the keeping of a record of any changes to the above and its location

A reference to the recording of major maintenance/changes( - not down to the level of septum/seal/column changes :-)) and the location of the record

Apart from the SOP itself ( but nothing to do with an SOP as such) it might be a local requirement for anyone using the instrument be a trained person and a record held of that training.

Regards

Ralph

Hi, ISO/IEC 17025:2005 has everything you need in terms of laboratory quality.
