Morning All,

I am considering changing over to an air and hydrogen generator to fuel my FIDs. Hydrogen has always been my carrier so I have no concerns about the "cloud" over using hydrogen. My question just lies in manufacturer. My only experience is with a Whatman but would like to hear experiences in using other manufacturers. Thanks for any input! Jeni

I have always found the Whatman generators a bit dissapointing. We are gradually changing over to Domnickhunter generators.

We have had four Whatman generators running for seven years, maintained by PerkinElmer, no particular problems to report. What is critical for us is the service contract. It could be Whatman or Domnick Hunter. I don't mind what the generator principle is as long as any repair is fast.

What is certain is that when you come to buy replacements after a few years the name on the front panel has changed and the distributor has changed. Whatman became Parker-Balston. Now Domnick Hunter have merged with Parker-Balston how long will they carry two lines of generator.
Since 3 years I have the new generation of H2 generators from Domnick Hunter in my lab, no problems!

Please add a pressure regulator in the outlet tubing, this gives more stabilisation for the FID. Otherwise approx. 0.5mA fluctuation of ionisation current...

Hi,

I also think that Domnick Hunter generators perform better. We had several problems with Whatman generators (even that those problems might be created by user, not construction).

Correction: here shouldt be pA and NOT mA, excuse my mistake
