Monolithic Column Preparation

Hi,

I'm looking for help in the preparation of silica based monolithic column.

I fabricated monolith in a sealed glass tube with internal diameter of 0.5mm. It will undergo hydrothermal process at 80 degree celsius for 25 hours for gel network formation. However, the monolith was cracked. Does it due to the pressure accumulated inside the glass tube (exert on the monolith and cause cracking?) ? Or any other possibilities?

Thank you!

How many times have you tried ?

If only once - try again, maybe you were just unlucky.

Hi Peter,

I did tried for a few times and cracking still happen. Just wonder why cracking is keep happening. I did sonicate the solution to remove bubbles.

I will keep on trying on it.

Thank you!

What is the outer diameter of the glass tube, and how long is it ? If the tube bends it might crack the monolith.

If you are following a method from the literature you could try contacting the author of the paper.
