Hello,

we have to set-up a method for ascorbate in human plasma. I'm trying to find out if LC-MS (we have a Bruker Esquire 3500+ ion trap with electrospray) is a valid option. There are very few publications in the field of food/plant analysis (Frenich AG et al J Agric Food Chem. 2005 Sep 21;53(19):7371-6 and Rellan-Alvarez R Anal Biochem. 2006 Jun 12; [Epub ahead of print]) but I found nothing on plasma so far.
A colleague of me told me he has attempted to detect ascorbate with LC-MS but had no signal, even with a standard : thus this was not a signal suppression due to the preanalytical acidic precipitation procedure used for plasma.

We have an alternative method but I still expect ascorbate to be detectable by esi-lc-ms anyway ; could someone on this list confirm if this is feasible and practical?

Thank you for your help
